An encouraging trend that emerged in 2016 was a decrease in driver hours-of-service violations, according to numbers compiled by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and cited in the industry publication Trucker News. Double-digit declines were reported, the FMCSA says.
Among the possible reasons for this positive development, the adoption of GPS fleet tracking and electronic logging devices could be a factor. Some authorities believe that this change reflects a benefit of new technology, in promoting better work practices and more accurate record keeping.
