ELD Mandate questions? Teletrac Navman and FMCSA experts answer them October 6

The rejection of Texas Rep. Brian Babin’s proposal to delay the ELD Mandate made clear the December 18, 2017 implementation date is sticking. “Wait and see” is no longer an option for trucking companies.

While uncertainty around the Mandate going into effect is dispelled, there are plenty of questions around what a post-December 18 world looks like. This is true for carriers who’ve already implemented and those now scrambling to find an FMCSA-registered ELD vendor that will make them ELD-compliant.

Collin Mooney, executive director at CVSA, was recently quoted saying ELD training of approximately 13,000 commercial vehicle inspectors by FMCSA officials will begin in late October or early November. Then those inspectors will go on to train others in their jurisdiction.

That’s a lot of trained inspectors who will be checking for ELDs. While truckers won’t immediately be put out of service (at least not until the grace period ends April 1), any who fail inspection on or after December 18 will have violation points added to their CSA Score (Compliance, Safety, Accountability). And states are setting their own fines for ELD non-compliance.

To help carriers and drivers better understand how to stay compliant, prepare for enforcement stops and use ELDs to improve safety and operations, Teletrac Navman is hosting a live event, featuring an FMCSA speaker:
