While driver salaries have recently risen due to the labor shortage and increased freight rates, trucking companies are still losing out on talent to the construction industry. In a bid to attract more drivers, companies like Amazon have announced additional pay increases for employees. Still, the trucking industry falls behind the construction industry in average salary. To paint a clearer picture, the chart below compares the average salaries of heavy and trailer-truck drivers to those in construction and extraction occupations in the highest paying states for construction workers.
