Unfortunately, vehicle theft never takes a holiday. According to the National Crime Information Center, an average of 2,228 vehicles were stolen per day in 2017. But on New Year’s Day, vehicle thefts spiked to 2,469. Similarly, vehicle thefts were higher than average on President’s Day, Halloween and Memorial Day. On the other hand, Christmas Eve, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day had comparatively low vehicle theft rates, with Christmas the lowest of the entire year with 1,548 stolen vehicles.
