The data was analyzed from this four year period to find the 25 most dangerous highways in America, based on the number of traffic fatalities per mile of highway. The analysis also uncovers the deadliest time to be on each of these highways with a focus on the most common month, day of the month, day of the week, and even the most common single hour of the day for traffic fatalities to occur on the 25 deadliest highways.
Interstate 4, which runs through Florida, was once again found to be the most dangerous highway in the U.S. and was the only highway on the list that had a death per mile rate of more than one. Four interstates that run through Florida landed in the top ten on our list, making it home to some of the deadliest highways in America.

The most dangerous highway in the U.S. is Interstate 4 (I-4) which was found to have 1.134 deaths per mile of highway. This 132 mile stretch of interstate runs between two Florida cities, Tampa and Daytona Beach, and had a total of 150 traffic fatalities between 2016 and 2019. Orlando, Florida was found to be the deadliest city along I-4 with 11 fatalities during this time.
When is the deadliest time to be on America’s most dangerous highway? Our analysis found that traffic fatalities happened more often on I-4 during the month of March, and on the eleventh day of the month. Sunday was found to be the most common day of the week, and traffic fatalities were found to most commonly occur during the first hour of the day.
