Challenge:

SUEZ can manage anywhere from 50 to 150 household waste collection requests per day from the local authority, and drivers have a four-hour window to complete each job. If this timeframe is exceeded, the business incurs penalties. Prior to collaborating with Teletrac Navman, SUEZ relied on manual processes to allocate jobs, which involved constant communication with drivers to confirm their locations and statuses. This complex system led to increased penalties from the council due to the inability to meet the four-hour job slots reliably. The company recognised a need for a more efficient, digital solution to manage operations effectively and mitigate financial risks associated with their service commitments.

Teletrac Navman won us over with a flawless approach, followed by first-rate consultancy and execution. The introduction of our SUEZ Dashboard has been operation-changing – I can’t even begin to tell you the difference it has made.

- Darren Lockett, Production Operations Manager

Solution:

To identify the optimal solution for SUEZ, Teletrac Navman deployed a team of consultants who closely collaborated with the fleet management team, visited front-line operations, and analysed existing processes and performance data. The findings indicated that SUEZ required a solution capable of integrating with the local authority and subcontractor operating systems to provide real-time visibility of operations. Teletrac Navman developed and piloted multiple configurations of a digital solution, resulting in the creation of the ‘SUEZ Dashboard’. This custom-made platform allows SUEZ to manage job dispatch, monitor delivery updates, and access proof of delivery files, all within a single user-friendly interface. The dashboard also delivers alerts for items awaiting collection and notifies the office if a driver is nearing the four-hour limit.

Following the success of this custom-made solution, we’ve won one of the largest contracts in Europe with another large local authority, who recognises that we have a proven track record when it comes to regional waste management, by deploying best in class technology to deliver the work. These are exciting times for the business as we continue to respond to our customers’ needs and expectations by using evolving technology.

Results:

Since implementing the SUEZ Dashboard, the company has realised a range of benefits that have transformed its operations:

  1. Complete Visibility of Vehicles: The dashboard has provided a 100% increase in awareness of each vehicle's location, allowing for better coordination and dispatching.
  2. Reduction in Penalties: Since adopting the solution, SUEZ has experienced a notable decrease in fines, as the system facilitates timely job completion.
  3. Increased Delivery Capacity: The new setup has allowed SUEZ to raise the number of deliveries by 37.5% per vehicle, per day, maximising vehicle utilisation.
