Challenge:

Petroassist’s diverse customer base spans from city centre forecourts to rural petrol stations, making it crucial to effectively track the location of its field service engineers each day. Efficient job dispatching is key to servicing customers promptly. Previously, Petroassist relied on another telematics system that required drivers to manually activate it each time they used a vehicle, leading to frequent human errors. This oversight, combined with rising fuel, maintenance, and insurance costs, highlighted the need for a more reliable telematics solution that could operate on a key-in key-out basis and provide detailed performance insights for each engineer on the road.

Not only is Teletrac Navman’s system the perfect solution for our business and easy to navigate, the personal touch of its customer services team, from job scoping to implementation and ongoing support and training, has been the most refreshing part of our relationship. We now feel fully equipped to use DIRECTOR in the best way for our business.

- Murray Shepherd, Parts & Logistics Manager

Solution:

To address these challenges, Petroassist partnered with Teletrac Navman, which took the time to understand the unique requirements of the business. Teletrac Navman recommended a combination of the Qube 300 telematics hardware and the award-winning DIRECTOR platform. This advanced fleet tracking system enables fleet managers to access real-time data through a user-friendly interface. DIRECTOR offers comprehensive information, including vehicle locations, fuel usage, and driver performance, while also helping to reduce fuel and insurance costs. Additionally, the implementation of a Business/Private button on the hardware allows drivers to indicate when vehicles are being used outside of work hours, ensuring accurate monitoring of driver behaviour.

The workforce has responded so well to our Managing Director’s challenge to improve driving standards and be more efficient with our fleet operations, that our fuel card supplier contacted us to ask whether something had happened within business! This was due to us using drastically less than the amount of fuel we had budgeted for with them – our margins are now looking much healthier as a result.

Results:

The adoption of the DIRECTOR platform has led to significant improvements in Petroassist's operational efficiency and overall performance through:

  1. Reduced Fuel Consumption: Fuel usage has decreased by 10%, contributing to healthier profit margins for the business.
  2. Improved Driving Standards: The frequency of poor driving incidents, as recorded by DIRECTOR, has decreased by 43% per week, indicating enhanced driver behaviour.
  3. Lower Insurance Claims: The number of 'at fault' insurance claims has dropped by over 50% year-on-year, providing additional financial benefits to the company.
