Challenge:
London is home to some of the UK’s busiest roads, resulting in many road accidents each year. In a bid to reduce road deaths and injuries, Transport for London (TfL) has implemented new measures, including a speed limit of 20mph on all central London roads. As a housing association determined to set and maintain a high safety standard amongst its drivers, Metro Housing requires those behind the wheel to be aware of their surroundings and adhere to appropriate speed limits. Joseph Masters, Transport Manager at Metro Housing, recognised the need for a new road safety strategy to protect drivers, the public, and the business.
We’ve seen a 75% drop in driver ‘events’ in nine months since adopting the service. What’s more, winning the Company Driver Safety Award speaks volumes about how far we’ve come from the adjustments we made with our activity. To me, it looks like we have progressed massively as a team and I look to make further improvements.
- Joseph Masters, Transport Manager
Solution:
After close consultation with the team at Metro Housing, Teletrac Navman identified and implemented a suitable end-to-end fleet management solution. This solution uses safety analytics to track and measure the performance of 150 vehicles, including monitoring the number of speeding events and fixed penalty notices issued to drivers. Additionally, Teletrac Navman set up a new driver scorecard and reporting feature. With access to weekly reports, Masters was able to effectively communicate and address poor performance with drivers, reinforcing the importance of safety for both drivers and pedestrians. Metro Housing also launched internal driver campaigns and held more frequent one-to-one conversations between management and drivers, using the data provided to inform personal development plans.
Teletrac Navman has been a trusted partner of ours for many years and has played a massive part in our journey.
Results:
The collaboration with Teletrac Navman has led to significant achievements for Metro Housing, demonstrating the effectiveness of the DIRECTOR solution in promoting safety and accountability.
- Total Fleet Performance Visibility: Metro Housing has attained 100% visibility of its fleet’s performance, enabling effective monitoring and management of driving behaviours.
- Significant Reduction in Harsh Driving Events: The organisation has experienced a 75% decrease in incidences of harsh braking and movement, contributing to safer driving conditions.
- Boosted Driver Morale: The implementation of data-driven initiatives and one-to-one development programmes has strengthened driver morale and engagement within the team.
