Challenge:

C & R Developments is one of New Zealand’s leading civil earthworks and bulk earthmoving contracting companies. The Cambridge-based business has a varied fleet of 190 light vehicles, as well as dump trucks, excavators, bulldozers, loaders, compactors/rollers, articulated dump trucks, graders, trailers and water carts.

Because its equipment is also available for hire, keeping track of plant and managing Road User Charges are vital. Originally C & R Developments used technology from another provider but switched to Teletrac Navman late in 2023. The key drivers for this transition included the need for centralized electronic management of RUC and rebates, cost savings, and improved maintenance management for light vehicles.

We’re saving time and we’re saving money.

- Andrew Stevenson, Transport Manager

Solution:

C & R Developments migrated its fleet to Teletrac Navman’s solutions for GPS vehicle tracking and RUC management, and tracks 190 light vehicles, 30 heavy vehicles and 15 trailer units.

The transition from its previous provider was simple and seamless. There was no resistance from drivers and equipment operators, who were easily able to adapt to Teletrac Navman’s intuitive in-cab technology with minimal training and support.

Encouraged by Teletrac Navman’s proven technology and superior customer support, C & R Developments is now looking to add driver safety modules to support and encourage safe driving.

Results:

Transport Manager Andrew Stevenson says the difference between Teletrac Navman and its previous provider was like night and day. By adopting Teletrac Navman’s technology, C & R Developments has achieved the following benefits:

  1. $30,000 annual savings
  2. Weekly speed report improves overall safety
  3. Peace of mind with full visibility & asset tracking

Additionally, the workshop manager uses the system to:

  1. Service vehicles on time, every time
  2. Keep tabs on mechanics performing maintenance and overall equipment job site visibility
