According to 2016 data released by professional service company KPMG in their Global Construction Survey, 219 senior leaders in construction and engineering were asked about their implementation of emerging technologies in face-to-face interviews. Of the executives, 65% said they employ remote monitoring, including GPS tracking devices on equipment and vehicles, for project sites, followed by 61% using Building Information Modeling (BMI) on a majority of their projects and 42% using drones to monitor construction sites. At a time when construction companies are ripe for technological disruption, many leaders remain conservative when it comes to o embracing technology, but KPMG’s survey finds those investing in disruptive tech are a step ahead. Technologies like GPS tracking and BIM are helping project managers and supervisors find efficiencies on the jobsite in real-time and improve safety for all.
